Matthew's Notes
Here we have an early 1950's Omega stainless steel reference 2576-12, known as an early -Seamster. The robust 34.5mm stainless steel case with prominent, thick lugs is paired with its vintage Omega steel "beads-of-rice" style bracelet. The original dial on this watch is what I really love. It features an appealing "Explorer-style" layout with alternating applied dagger/arrow markers and Breguet style numerals at 12, 3, and 9 o'clock, alongside a distinct large sub-seconds register at the 6 o'clock position. This watch is powered by an self-winding "bumper" automatic movement Caliber 342 . Unlike modern automatics where the rotor spins a full 360 degrees, a bumper movement moves back and forth in a partial arc, gently bumping against small spring buffers. The case back has a beautiful inscription. This watch belonged to Mr. Grover Cleveland Morehart who was an American educator and author. This watch was given to him to commemorate his tenure as a professor of education at Syracuse University.
