Our Story
Since 1989, Matthew Bain has been a trusted name in the luxury watch trade, driven by a passion for horology and a commitment to integrity. Matthew's journey & interest in timepieces began in 1985 at American University in Washington, D.C., inspired by his father, one of the United States’ most prominent watch collectors. What started as a hobby became a thriving business, with Matthew buying and selling exceptional timepieces for over three decades.
From 1990 to 2006, Matthew operated a renowned watch store in Miami Beach, building a reputation for unmatched expertise. Today, he and his partner, Morgan Cardet, operate from a sophisticated office in the heart of Coral Gables, Florida, serving collectors and luxury retailers worldwide. Matthew’s knowledge spans antique pocket watches from the 1880s to cutting-edge modern timepieces, earning him recognition as a consultant for major auction houses like Sotheby’s and Christie’s. His contributions have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, WatchTime, and Bloomberg, with curated timepieces displayed in prestigious collections, including the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva.
In 2009, Morgan Cardet joined Matthew, bringing fresh energy along with a passion for contemporary design. Introduced through a local collector, Morgan quickly became Matthew’s shadow and learned the ins and outs of the business at his side. Through his years of dedication Morgan earned his place as a Partner at Matthew Bain Inc. and leads the business as our Managing Director, excelling in dealmaking, overseeing industry events, and guiding the company’s corporate partnerships with top luxury retailers. Together, Matthew and Morgan blend tradition with innovation, ensuring Matthew Bain Inc. meets the demands of discerning collectors and partners. Morgan is the "modern half" of our ownership team. His experience with and knowledge of vintage timepieces rivals that of any top expert. However, his true passion shines with appreciation of contemporary watches and design. Morgan is always working with the "latest and greatest" timepieces, and is a wizard when it comes to predicting and analyzing market trends.
