Audemars Piguet Rectangular Royal Oak 'Jumbo' - Ref, 6005ST

Released during the height of the quartz crisis, this model represents a rare, experimental era where Audemars Piguet adapted Gérald Genta's iconic industrial design language into a geometric rectangular profile. While it features the distinctive integrated steel bracelet, it lacks the traditional octagonal bezel and exposed screws found on classic Royal Oak references.  Often referred to as the rectangular "Jumbo" due to its commanding wrist presence, this reference has become a highly coveted cult classic for serious vintage collectors.  The watch measures approximately 32mm x 41mm, wearing remarkably thin, sleek, and sharp on the wrist. This particular example features the rare  beautifully dynamic dark sunburst dial.  Rather than the standard Tapisserie pattern, the radiating lines on this variant offer stunning light play that shifts dramatically depending on the angle.   This model is powered by the vintage quartz Caliber 2511 which  has an unconventional setting mechanism where pulling out the crown only adjusts the hours.  A small recessed pusher inside the crown advances the minutes.  This unusual  time-setting quirk gives the watch a unique, tactile technological novelty that enthusiasts love to discuss.   Unlike modern mass-produced watches, the 6005ST had a very short production run with highly limited numbers entering circulation.
