Tropical Rolex Yellow Gold Submariner - Ref. 1680

First introduced at the  end of the 1960s, the Ref. 1680/8 represents a historic milestone as the very first Submariner variant ever rendered in precious metal.  While any gold four-digit  reference Submariner is sought after, this specific example features the holy grail of vintage aging—an exceptional "Tropical" dial.  Originally fitted with a vibrant blue metallic dial from the factory, organic chemical reactions over decades of UV and ambient exposure have transformed the face into a rich, perfectly uniform golden  brown.  Contrasting beautifully against the tropical dial are the original gold "Nipple" hour markers, a distinct vintage design cue highly coveted by collectors. Framed by its original blue bezel insert, this combination provides an incredible, unmistakable aesthetic that cannot be replicated.    The solid 18kt yellow gold case is super thick with slight patina beginning to form on the gold.  We believe this watch to be unpolished with all hallmarks deep and crisp.   The watch comes on its original solid yellow gold heavy Oyster bracelet with flip lock clasp.  Incredible watch!  One of the nicest we have had and love that it has its original Rolex papers.
