Special Rolex Stainless Steel Oyster Perpetual Ref. 1002

This is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch with an interesting history.  Jose Lopez Portillo was a Mexican writer, lawyer and politician who served as the 58th President of Mexico from 1976 to 1982.  He was known to give Rolex watches as gifts throughout this Presidential tenure.  This is not the first Rolex I have owned that was a gift by Mr. Jose Lopez Portillo.  This watch was given to Jose Antonio Velarde during the mid 1970's by President Portillo.  It is a stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 1002 circa 1974.  The all original blue linen dial is fantastic.  It has depth and movement when you look at it.  The markers are applied slash markers with perfectly intact lume plots.  The watch comes on its original stainless steel folded link oyster bracelet. Aside from the beauty of being a vintage Rolex from the 1970's with a killer dial, this watch has Mexican history attached to it.
