Matthew's Notes
Few watches in history command the same level of reverence as the Rolex "Paul Newman" Daytona. Originally deemed too "exotic" for the 1960s market, these dials have since become the most desirable vintage sports watches in the world. This Reference 6241 is a definitive piece of horological history, famously associated with the legendary actor and racing driver who gave it its name. This example features the signature three-color "exotic" dial, characterized by its Art Deco-inspired sub-dial numerals and unique square "box" markers at the ends of the hash marks. The sunken sub-registers and "stepped" outer track create a three-dimensional depth that is unique to these early manual-wind Daytonas. Produced for only a few short years between approximately 1966 and 1969, the Reference 6241 is significantly rarer than its sister model, the 6239. It is defined by its elegant black acrylic tachymeter bezel, which provides a larger, more contemporary wrist presence compared to the standard steel versions. The 6241 features the early pump style pushers authentic to the non-oyster vintage models. The signature red Daytona script arched over the 6 o'clock subdial compliments the red outer tracking. This watch comes on its original Rolex Oyster rivet bracelet with date code in clasp.
