Matthew's Notes
This watch is a highly rare and collectible vintage 1969 Omega Seamaster "Bullhead" Chronograph (Reference 146.011. Named for its signature shield-shaped case with the winding crown and chronograph pushers positioned like horns at the top of the case, it stands as one of the most avant-garde, creatively experimental designs in Omega's history. Powered by the manual-wind Caliber 930, this reference was produced for only about one year, making it an incredibly scarce treasure for serious watch collectors. It is estimated that only 600 units were produced ,making it one of the rarest and most intensely sought after Omega sport chronographs ever produced. Aside from its scarcity, the condition of this particular watch makes it very special. The watch is unpolished and is in minty condition. This piece boasts its iconic factory original matte brown "chocolate" dial, bordered by an incredibly intricate inner rotating 60-minute countdown bezel. The dial typography remains razor-sharp, accented by an off-center date window at 3 o'clock. The signature top sub-dial functions as a 30-minute chronograph counter, distinctively split into vibrant blue and red segments. Paired with its needle-sharp neon orange central chronograph hand and clean sub-seconds at 6 o'clock, the watch offers immense visual presence. The defining characteristic of this legendary watch is its asymmetrical, multi-angled stainless steel cushion case. Measuring a commanding 43mm across, the case is ingeniously tapered to sit higher on the wrist at the 12 o'clock position to optimize legibility for rally drivers and sportsmen. This specialized configuration moves the primary time-setting crown and dual chronograph pushers to the top edge, resembling bull horns. A secondary independent crown is integrated neatly at the 6 o'clock position to operate the internal timing bezel. Inside sits the rare, high-grade, manually wound Omega Caliber 930 movement. To accommodate the radical "Bullhead" layout, Omega's engineers rotated the movement 90 degrees counter-clockwise. Featuring 17 jewels and integrated date mechanics, this caliber remains a masterclass in mid-century mechanical watchmaking
