Matthew's Notes
Up for sale is a rare vintage Breitling Chronomat Reference 769 executed in a stunning, solid 18k Pink Gold case. First introduced in 1942, the Reference 769 is the legendary patriarch of the Chronomat line. It holds the historic title of the world’s very first wristwatch to feature a built-in circular slide rule—utilizing Swiss Patent 217012 to allow scientists, engineers, and mathematicians to perform complex calculations on the wrist. While steel versions are highly collectible, surviving examples in solid 18k pink gold are exceptionally scarce and represent the absolute pinnacle of mid-century tool-watch luxury. The all original two-tone silver dial has a multi-scale dial featuring the iconic outer logarithmic slide rule ring and an inner telemetry scale with red accents. The dial tracks remain incredibly crisp and legible. The dial has aged gracefully, acquiring an honest, warm vintage patina that accentuates its mid-century heritage. The solid pink gold case looks to be unpolished which sharp lugs and all numbering intact and visible. This pink gold beauty is powered by a Venus Caliber 175 manual wind movement, widely regarded as one of the finest and most beautiful manual-wind chronograph calibers ever produced.
