Matthew's Notes
Born in Paris in 1912, the Cartier Baignoire predates almost every modern watch icon. Named after the French word for "bathtub" due to its remarkably smooth, elliptical profile, the Baignoire is a masterclass in elegant, shaped watchmaking. The beautifully contoured 18k yellow gold oval stepped case is in excellent condition. The smooth, thick gadroon bezel curves seamlessly around the wrist, playing beautifully with light and feeling completely organic to the touch. The original 'Paris' white dial features Cartier’s signature radial Roman numerals. The numerals playfully expand and distort to perfectly trace the dramatic curves of the oval inner bezel. This beauty is fitted with traditional blued-steel sword hands that perfectly complement the dark blue, beaded sapphire cabochon crown at 3 o'clock. We have paired the watch with a rich emerald green alligator strap for its original Cartier solid gold deployant buckle. This 1970's watch is powered by a manual wind.
