This New York IWJG Watch Show was active with a lot of energy and with many Asian and European dealers in attendance. Buying and selling was very brisk and some very collectible watches surfaced including a Rolex James Bond Ref: 6200, Patek Philippe 2499, and a unique Vacheron Constantin World Time Clock.
Again, basic Rolex plastic sports models in excellent condition were selling. Rolex Daytonas were very popular at the show from vintage to modern. There were not too many vintage Rolex Paul Newman Daytonas and the dealers were asking for them. Patek Philippe pre-owned watches with original papers were very strong and flying off the shelves as well with other high grade brands such as Audemars Piguet, Cartier, and Vacheron Constantin.
The same trend continues since my last market report. Rolex sports models and pre-owned watches with papers are high in demand. I will keep a close eye on the market though because the Euro has been weakening and prices may fluctuate if the decline continues. There are three big watch auctions in Genèva May 8th through May 10th which will be another good benchmark for the market. I will report on this next week.
