Matthew's Note
Before the Paul Newman Daytona and The BIG Red Daytona there were the Rolex Pre-Daytona's. The reference 6238 was produced for only a short time between 1962 and 1968 in what is believed to be as few as 2500 pieces in all dial and metal configurations. The Rolex Ref. 6238 typically comes with a silvered dial. This particular configuration in stainless steel with black dial is among the most rare examples out there. The stainless steel case has retained its shape with nice and thick lugs, sharp bezel and crisp numbers between the lugs. The unrestored dial on this watch is what really stands out. The black dial is all original and in excellent condition. The silver gilt writing is pristine and all the lume on the dial and hands are original. This rare beauty is powered by a Valjoux 72 manual wind movement. This is a real rarity of a Rolex watch!
