1971 Rolex Paul Newman Ref. 6262

October 30, 2015

1971 Rolex Paul Newman Ref. 6262

This is a rare variation of the Rolex "Paul Newman" Daytona from 1971. It is the reference 6262 which was the successor of the common reference 6239 Paul Newman.

The cases of the reference 6239 and 6262 were very similar with the metal tachymeter bezel, but the big difference was an upgrade in the movement. The 6239 was equipped with the val-joux 722-1 while the 6262 was enhanced with the val-joux 727 which was also in the later screw down models such as the reference 6263.

What also sets the the 6262 Paul Newman apart is the two color panda dial as opposed to the three color dial typically on the 6239 and 6241 models. The panda is highly desirable because it is very similar looking to the panda dial on the screw down models.

What makes this Rolex Paul Newman a grail watch is the condition. This watch case is impeccable and has never been polished with part of the original sticker still on the back. The panda dial is bright and flawless with beautiful luminescent dots and no marks or scratches. The watch comes on the original Rolex fold over band with the proper 271 endlinks. The final kicker is this Paul Newman comes with the original box and Rolex guarantee which is very difficult to find.
