The first major watch events of 2012 took place in Miami at the end of January at the IWJG and the Miami Beach Antique Show. There were many watch aficionados in town for both shows from all over the world. Both shows were very active and had record turn outs. Both modern and vintage watches sold at a rapid pace. On the vintage side some really rare and cool watches showed up. I saw a few beautiful Rolex big crown James Bond models from a Ref 6200 to a 6538 with the explorer dial with red writing. There was also a beautiful Milgauss Ref 6541 with a chocolate dial and the lightning bolt hand. There were some incredible bubble backs with unusual dials. It seems like the Rolex day-date models were the flavor of the show as the major vintage dealers had some very rare dial and reference configurations. On the modern side Vacheron and Piaget were on fire due to their popularity in the Asian markets. Of course both modern Patek Philippe and Rolex were doing very well. Based upon the results of these shows it seems like the watch market will remain healthy in 2012. Keep on hunting!!!!
